ٍٍstem Cell Treatment For Spinal Cord Injury

Background

Osama is a 33 year old male patient from Libya. He was admitted at _Beijing Puhua International Hospital_ for stem cell treatment of his Spinal Cord Injury. He had "Disorders of: activities and sensation of the lower limbs, urination, and defecation for more than one month post a traffic accident".

More than one month ago, Osama unfortunately had a car accident, which caused dislocation fracture of L1 and led him into incomplete paraplegia. He received an operation later to decompress the injured local pressure in Egypt. However, he suffered paraplegia after the injury.

Medical condition pre-stem cell treatment for Spinal Cord Injury (SCI)

Prior to his stem cell treatment for SCI, Osama was normal with his upper body's movement. The main problem with him is that he could hardly move his legs. His sensation of pain and temperature disappeared below the level of T11. He had no sensation when he was urinating or defecating, and he was not able to control that.

Stem cell treatment

_Four injections of neural stem cells, self stem cell activation, proliferation therapy, rehabilitation therapy_, and TCM

Medical condition post-stem cell treatment for Spinal Cord Injury (SCI)

While in hospital, Osama cooperated well with treatment. After _stem cell therapy_, Osama had great improvements with his symptoms. After the first time of stem cell injections, he felt his sensation level was lower than before, which meant that he had sensation with more area of his body. He had no sensation below the level of T11 prior to his treatment. But after the stem cell treatment, he had sensation at his pelvic level when he was in a lying position. The second time of stem cell therapy, his sensation with his pelvic region was better than the first time, he felt just as normal in his pelvic region. And the third time, he was able to move his toes slightly. This was impossible before treatment. Currently he has some feeling in his toes. Also, he feels that his legs have more strength than before. Before the treatment, his legs always looked pale. Now, vessels can be seen under the skin of his legs. When someone touches his leg, he can point out which one are touched.

Not only does Osama have improvements with his sensation and his movements of his toes, but also he gains more control with his urination and defecation. Before the therapy, he had no sensation or desire for his urination, and he could not control it. After the stem cell treatment, he has a sensation when he is urinating, and he can control 50% of it, which is impossible since he had the car accident. Also, he now can control 20% of his defecation.

As the great improvements that Osama has experienced, he expresses that he will go on the rehabilitation therapy learnt in hospital, so as to consolidate the curative effects of stem cell treatment. He hopes that more improvements will happen in the future.

Follow up

Recently, after the completion of his stem cell treatment for spinal cord injury (SCI) six months ago, Osama had experienced several significant improvements that he felt would have a major impact on the quality of his life.

He regained power in his hip muscles, which brought him greater stability while sitting.

He is now able to raise his knees, stretch his legs, bend his knees by himself, as well as move his feet back towards him. The sensation level is lower than before, which make him able to feel his legs. It is easier for him to continue to build strength in his leg muscles, which enable him to actually _STAND FOR MORE THAN TEN MINUTES AND MOVE SLOWLY WITH A WALKER INSTEAD OF BEING CONFINED TO A WHEEL CHAIR_.

Osama is going on his rehabilitation therapy in Egypt now. We hope that he will get more significant improvements in the future.
